Description

Hands-on, two-day reading intervention workshop to reach struggling readers, students with dyslexia, and nonreaders!

This workshop is sponsored by your local EPS Sales Rep.

About the Workshop

Attend our in-depth, two-day S.P.I.R.E. workshop to learn how to reach students with language-based learning disabilities and dyslexia.

This intensive two-day workshop provides specific hands-on strategies for multisensory teaching, utilizing SPIRE’s explicit 10-Step lesson plan and its unique scope and sequence. The workshop will focus on correct sound/symbol relationships, specific strategies for multisensory teaching, and how to develop a sound foundation for struggling readers, students with dyslexia, and nonreaders. The trainer, BJ Wiemer, will model and have participants practice with instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and assessment. We will explore spelling and written language, the characteristics of at-risk learners, and current reading research. Participants will leave with new teaching strategies and a clear understanding of the S.P.I.R.E. program.

In this workshop, you will learn about:

  • Hands-on practice with in-depth multi-sensory teaching strategies in the S.P.I.R.E. program

  • Providing the structure, content, and differentiation opportunities that lead to reading success

  • Reinforcing concepts for mastery through a spiraling curriculum

  • Assessment and progress monitoring to facilitate dramatic improvement in reading proficiency

  • Current reading research, including characteristics of students with reading difficulties and dyslexia

  • Placing students at the appropriate instructional level

  • Differences with iSPIRE, the digital version of S.P.I.R.E.
